The Spinnaker Dumas, one of the brand’s most well-known models, pays homage to Frédéric Dumas, a writer and close friend of Jacques-Yves Cousteau with whom he collaborated to design the diving regulator.
In this Spinnaker Dumas review, we’ll take an in-depth look at the most popular model of the dive watch brand.
Spinnaker Dumas Review: Pros and Cons
- The Dumas model looks much more costly and really high quality than its price.
- Exceptionally unique multi-layered dial and the refined vintage-style octagonal case
- There is a collection of various colors that can satisfy different tastes.
- The Dumas can add zing to black-tie attire
- It seems too chunky to wear without snagging on your cuff
- The bezel with the mineral glass above isn’t as much scratch-resistant as expected but it helps cut down the costs.
- The mesh bracelet’s keeper doesn’t work as effectively as it should but you can replace it with a rubber or leather strap.
Spinnaker Dumas Review: Impressions
The Dumas quickly draws attention because of its distinctive faceted octagonal case, which is an interesting change from normal dive watches. This Spinnaker watch is pretty chunky and has a casual, not too-serious style that makes it feel perfect for everyday wear.
Though it is a little big in size, it’s still comfortable to wear. Although it’s not exactly ISO 6425 certified, this inexpensive diving watch’s 300-meter water resistance puts it on par with Rolex’s Submariner.
Spinnaker Dumas Design
The Dumas is a substantial and heavy watch with a funky octagonal design that gives it a 1970s vibe, which you’d definitely love. While we wouldn’t advise wearing it with a tuxedo (rather, go with a pocket watch), it’s ideal for weekend casual outfits at the yacht club.
While there are obvious similarities between this watch and Omega’s Plongeur Professionale (also known as the Ploprof), Spinnaker has added its own flair to the design by combining brushed facets and polished bevels to a stunning effect. The watch’s strong angular lines and variety of intriguing colorways also help it stand out. You’ll see good customer feedback on its design later on in this Spinnaker Dumas review.
As a popular model of a microbrand watch, its price is only $400 or less if you have a discount code. It would be difficult to find another watch at this price with the same upscale feel.
Spinnaker Dumas Quality of Materials and Craftsmanship
It’s fair to assume in this Spinnaker Dumas review that no details or quality have been overlooked with all Spinnaker watches.
The watch has a heavy-duty, industrial vibe that is fitting for anything that must survive life at sea thanks to the chunky stainless steel case that is 44 mm wide and 15 mm thick. The lugs are hidden, which makes the design look streamlined and sleek.
Along with the flawlessly designed unidirectional bezel, there is also an accessible screw-down crown at 3 o’clock. The sail logo for the brand is inside the graphic bubble.
The scratch-resistant sapphire crystal that comes with the Dumas had no glare or distortion. Plus, a 4 mm thick and incredibly flexible Milanese mesh band is an option in addition to the stainless steel bracelet.
The mesh band’s exposed loose part remains after you resize it, and this is the only drawback. During the day, the boxy floating keeper moves around, which causes the mesh to flap, which is a little unpleasant. The strap should be replaced with a rubber or waterproof leather option.
Spinnaker Dumas Dial & Movement
This Spinnaker watch’s dial is basic, athletic, and simple to read and use. A Strong lume is there, and the indices include square markings at 12, 3, 6, and 9. The depth and multiple layering of the design create dynamism and aid in legibility, giving the watch a pricier look than it actually is.
The Dumas’ large sword hour hand, which not only makes it simple to read the time but also adds flair and zing, is something you would love. You can read the most common customer feedback in this Spinnaker Dumas review to see how people are satisfied with it.
This affordable automatic watch has a self-winding Seiko NH35 movement with a Spinnaker customer rotor. It boasts a 42-hour power reserve, and the exhibition case back lets you observe the movement in action. It ticks the boxes for precision and affordability at 21,600 beats per hour, or 6 beats per second.

GREAT WATCH GREAT PRICEI have to say that this watch lives up to all my expectations. I have had a few compliments on it already. I like the fact of the face being easy to read. The Sapphire crystal is great too! I bought it just after Christmas with the discount promo still active. So far I’m really impressed with the quality, as my job is quality control!
ABSOLUTELY STUNNING WATCHPerfect timepiece. Love the retro Hexagonal design. The illumination is excellent. This will be rotated extensively on my wrist. After I got introduced to Spinnaker, I began to collect this brand. These four Spinnaker watches add up to a nice round # of 30 chronographs that I own, wear, and rotate. Spinnaker can , and ,will, compete with some of my higher end timepieces The quality of the watches to the price point is incredible. Arrived faster then it should have. Well packaged. 💯 percent satisfaction with Spinnaker. I had to include a picture of the 4 watches that were purchased 👍🙂. Don’t think about purchasing, just do it and thank us later. Cheers from Kingston Ontario Canada.
1ST TIME PURCHASEThis is a really good time piece it’s my 1st purchase it will not be my last
GOOD DESIGN BUT COULD BE BETTERThe overall design looks good, just few things to complaint:
1. Bracelet edges all too sharp
2. The hands silver doesn’t looks premium, maybe full polish looks better
3. Blue AR coating affected the dial color – from Teh A.
REALLY NICE WATCH!This is just a great looking watch! My fifth Spinnaker, and I’m really happy with it. The upgraded band is really comfortable, and looks really classy. The watch has a nice feel, substantial, but not unnecessarily heavy. The unique hand shape adds a level of interest, and actually makes for easy readability.
VERY SATISFIEDExcellent watch. Beautiful and crafted well. Outstanding value. – from Michael U.
